The final medals were handed out on Thursday, bringing to close an exciting three days here in the Friendly City for the 2018 Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association 55+ Games.

Hundreds of athletes were in Moose Jaw for the three days of action in events like golf, swimming, track-and-field and slo-pitch, along with cribbage, bridge and much more.

The Regina Renegades won the 65+ slo-pitch gold medal, beating the Saskatoon Silver Foxes, 32-22, in the final on Thursday at Memorial Field.

"It was a tough go for us in the first six innings and I don't know what happened, but our bats came to life in the seventh," said Gary Tataryn with the Renegades.

The game was back-and-forth throughout with both offences coming to play. Saskatoon led 5-4 after the first inning and 12-9 after three.

The Renegades moved in front 14-13 after four and 16-14 after five, but the Silver Foxes would score five in the sixth to take a 19-16 lead.

Regina was able to retake the lead in the seventh and the hits just kept on coming in that frame as they plated 16 runs in the frame to pull away for good.

"Everybody got on a roll, it wasn't just one person or two people, all 11-12 of us," said Tataryn on their seventh inning explosion.

The gold medal win was the first at the 65+ level for the Renegades, who have won three times before in the 55+ division before moving up this year.

Tataryn said they've been playing together for over a decade and enjoy being able to get together for three days of ball at the provincial championship.

"We take time to get together and have a meal during the tournament," said Tataryn.
