The Moose Jaw AA Braves are their North Regina Little League title win on Tuesday night.

The Moose Jaw AA Braves capped off their season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night.

They won the North Regina Little League title with a 7-6 win over the Regina Tigers, scoring the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

“The boys were very excited,” said coach Terry Auger. “They had a tough pitcher to go against, they fought hard and came back at the end of the game in the last inning and scored three runs to win the game.”

Rhett May drove in the game-tying run with a double and then scored the winning run on a passed ball. He was mobbed as he crossed home plate and the celebration was one for the young team.

“He slide home and the boys attacked him at home plate,” explained Auger. “They were quite excited, jumping up and down, lots of helmets flying and hats flying, so it was very exciting for them.”

To make the win even more special, it was the first championship title won by many of the kids in any sport, so they were savouring it a little bit more. “This was their first and I'm sure it will set in their minds for years to come,” said Auger.

It was a season of development for the Braves as they started the year in a new league and had to find their way as the year progressed.

“When we started the season, we weren't sure what we were getting into in Regina, they've got a very good league, but as the year went on their hitting got better, their fielding got better, the pitching improved a ton and the boys started to play together a lot more,” stated Auger.

He added that you could see the improvement in the team each week and it just built up until the playoffs.

“By the end of the season, we finished .500 and then we took out a lot of the top teams,” Auger said. “They pulled it out and obviously we were the best team in Regina.”

Many of the players from the Braves squad will now be hitting the field with the Moose Jaw AAA All-Stars for the rest of the season. They will be at the Schools Out In The Bridge Little League Tournament in Lethbridge this weekend and then host provincials in a few weeks.
