It was a rollercoaster weekend for Matt Dunstone's Team Saskatchewan at the Tim Horton's Brier in Calgary.

Dunstone's rink was able to avoid tiebreakers on the final draw on Saturday to finish pool play with a 9-3 record, good enough for second place in the championship pool and a berth into the semifinals on Sunday against Brendan Bottcher's Alberta rink.

Saskatchewan held a 5-4 lead heading into the final end of the semifinal without last rock. Bottcher made an angle raise takeout with his final stone to score two for the win and a berth into the finals against Kevin Koe's Wild Card 2 team.

Bottcher would defeat Koe 4-2 in the final to win his first national championship.

Bottcher will represent Canada at the World Men's Curling Championship that takes place April 3 to 11 in Calgary.
