A team of 15 and 16-year old all star ballplayers, that includes some Moose Jaw players, will soon be en route to Nova Scotia for the national little league championship.

There are players from all over, including one from Nova Scotia, that are on the team representing the province.

The team's assistant coach Rob Krueger is based in Regina and the head coach is Duane Pearson from Moose Jaw, and both have been working with smaller groups on the team in the weeks leading to nationals. Kreuger talked about their expectations for next week's tournament.

“Right now our expectations are that we’re kind of underdogs,” he said. “Our hopes are to keep every game close, sneak a couple of wins and maybe go to the playoff rounds. Whoever wins nationals, a week later, they get to go to the world series in Easley, South Carolina.”

There are six provinces represented, plus the host Nova Scotia team. A lot of kids in this age group are playing with their teams getting set for provincials.

Getting time for practice is not an easy thing to remember when it comes to logistics.

“For the last couple of weeks... I practice with the Regina kids in Regina, and Duane practices with the Moose Jaw guys in Moose Jaw just to save highway time,” Krueger said. “We have gathered as a full team a couple of times. Right now we have 13 players on the team. A lot of the players are multifaceted. We have a lot of inter-changable players. They can play a lot of positions.”

The team is able to have a player from Nova Scotia, and another from British Columbia, by playing for Notre Dame’s house team.

They go to Nova Scotia Friday through till July 21.
