With the Humboldt Broncos set to return to the ice next season, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League held a dispersal draft over the weekend.

Two players with local connections were selected in the draft with Moose Jaw’s Ahmed Ally and former Generals defenceman Kyle Sargent among the ten players taken by the Broncos.

In 48 games last season with the Notre Dame Hounds, Ally had four goals and seven points, while Sargent picked up three goals and 13 points in 42 games with the Yorkton Terriers.

Ally was close friends with Evan Thomas, who was one of 16 players and staff of the Broncos that died in a tragic bus crash earlier this year.

The other players selected were: Connor Smith of the Battlefords North Stars, Bryson Cecconi of the Kinsdersley Klippers, La Ronge Ice Wolves’ Shane Hounsell, Eric McNeilly and Ayden Third from the Melfort Mustangs, Ethan Kopyczyn of the Melville Millionaires, Austin Mikesch from the Nipawin Hawks, and Jessie Young from the Weyburn Red Wings.

The ten players will help form the Humboldt team for the 2018-19 SJHL season. The Broncos have also held a free agent camp in Saskatoon, which was run by Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock and Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar.
