The Moose Jaw Astros were celebrating in the Queen City on Tuesday night as they captured the North Regina Little League’s Minor AAA Championship.

The Astros knocked off the Regina Athletics, 17-9, to capture the league title, capping off a great season on the diamond.

After losing to the Athletics, 7-5, in their first game of the double elimination playoffs, Moose Jaw strung together three straight wins, including back-to-back over the Athletics in the last two days by a combined score of 31-10.

The Astros collected 24 hits on their way to Tuesday’s win.

They jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and then tacked on two runs in the second to make it 6-3. Moose Jaw really took control in the third inning as they exploded for six runs in the frame. They sealed the title with a five-run fifth inning.

Max Simmons had a big game in the lead-off spot, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Noah Thul was also 3-for-3 with a run scored in the win.

Jackson Folliott, Owen Varjassy, Gerritt Gulutzan and Riley Cushway all scored two runs each in the win.

Cushway, Gulutzan, Cooper Gregor and Maguire Payne all combined for the win on the mound.

The Astros went 13-0 during the regular season.
