The Moose Jaw Bantam A Warriors were in a tight game with the Regina Buffaloes early on Monday, but seven straight goals for Regina allowed them to skate to a 9-3 win over Moose Jaw in the Hockey Regina League.

Nikolas Smolinski scored for Moose Jaw with 3:19 left in the first period to open the scoring, but the lead was short-lived with Hunter Kubic answering only 1:12 later to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

Regina picked up two goals in the opening 1:30 of the second period and added another one late to move in front 4-1.  They would strike early in the third period as well, scoring three times in the opening 2:40 to hold a 7-1 advantage.

The Buffaloes pushed that lead to 8-1 before Tevryn Hoover and Smolinski scored for the Warriors late in the third.

Smolinski finished with two goals, while Brodi Noble had two helpers in the loss.

The loss drops Moose Jaw’s record to 2-15-2 on the year. They return to the ice coming up on Thursday to host the Southey Marlins at the Bert Hunt Arena, puck drops at 7:15 p.m.

There’s a pair of local minor hockey teams in action on Tuesday night, as the Bantam A Mavericks look to rebound from their second loss of the season when they face the Regina Shamrocks in the Queen City at 6:15 p.m.

Also, the Midget A Warriors are in Wilcox to battle the Notre Dame Hounds at 5:45 p.m.
