The Viterra provincial Scotties is up and running in Melville with the two first draws in the books.

Moose Jaw's Penny Barker rink needed an extra end but defeated Rae Williamson 10-7 in her first match in the evening draw.

Meanwhile, the Shalon Fleming rink won their first match in the afternoon, 9-8 over Lorraine Schnieder in an extra end, but lost 8-2 in the evening draw to Robyn Silvernagle.

The Fleming rink has Moose Jaw's Candace Newkirk as third.

The Barker rink starts with the A semifinal against Silvernagle Saturday at 9 a.m., while the Fleming rink battles Ashley Howard at 3 p.m. in a B side match

The playoff round, which starts Monday evening.
