Moose Jaw's Penny Barker got on the board at the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Thursday.

After dropping her opening game, 7-4, to Michelle Englot on Wednesday night, the Barker rink – third Deanna Doig, second Melissa Hoffman and lead Danielle Sicinski – rebounded nicely with a commanding 8-3 win over Balgonie's Mandy Selzer to sit at 1-1 after two days of competition in Prince Albert.

After a quiet start that saw Selzer score two in the third for a 2-0 lead, Barker took control with three in the fourth and then a steal of four in the fifth. She added another steal of one in the sixth and then a single in the eighth for the win.

The win puts Barker in a strong position heading into two more round robin games on Friday. Barker will face the 0-2 Sherry Anderson rink on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and then in the night draw, she goes up against 2-1 Kelsey Dutton in a big Pool B match-up.

Dutton, out of Swift Current, currently sits third in the pool, while North Battleford's Robyn Silvernagle and Englot are tied for top spot at 2-0.

The round robin will wrap up on Saturday morning with Barker going against Silvernagle in her final game. The playoff round starts on Saturday afternoon.
