It has been a busy offseason for the Moose Jaw Minor Baseball Association and that's leading to an exciting outlook for 2019.

Numbers are up in registration with the Association welcoming in teams in all six division for the upcoming season.

The local organization has also unified under one name and the division names have been changed as well heading into the new season, aligning with the changes from Baseball Canada.

"There's been a bunch of changes nationally and at our level as well, the names of the divisions have changed, they went to the age groups like 18U, 15U, 11U instead of the old ones, Bantam, Peewee and so on," said President Brett Walchuk.

This season will see the Canucks hit the field in the 21U, 18U, 15U, 13U, 11U and Rally Cap divisions, which is all the divisions that Baseball Saskatchewan offers and in turn, that will give more kids the opportunity to learn the game.

Walchuk said they're very pleased with the response that they've received.

"This year we started the Rally Cap program for kids [aged] 4-8, it's a great program, I came up through that program many moons ago, it's built on the Canadian model of the fact that we don't have an entire year to learn baseball, so it's kind of like a skill-based learning and it keeps the fun in baseball," said Walchuk.

With the season just around the corner, this year's lineup of coaches have also been announced for the organization.

Curtis O'Reilly will be moving up from the 15U division to take over the 18U Canucks this season, while Ray Wareham will be returning to baseball to coach the 15U Canucks in 2019.

Dustin Caplette will also be moving up a division, jumping up to coach the 13U Canucks, while Craig Flanagan will be coaching the 11U Canucks this season.

"There's a lot of coaching and baseball history with those guys and a lot of playing time as well, so I'm excited to have that kind of coaching in our program," said Walchuk.

The tryouts for the 18U Canucks will go on Mar. 7 at Yara Centre and that will be followed by the 11U Canucks' tryouts on Mar. 14.
