The Blue Jays took control of their U12 Moose Jaw and District Fastball League final with a solid all-around game.

The Blue Jays won 9-6 over the Fury Sunday afternoon at Optimist Park

A lot of Blue Jays head coach Tom Montgomery's players throughout the year were on the Ice A or B teams this year in the Regina league and got a lot of additional coaching.

“We had eight Ice players between the As and the Bs,” said Montgomery. “Our first years were strong. Everybody wanted to swing the bat, which is a big thing. In U10, they’ve learned that you can wait for a walk and the coach will come out. Whereas in U12, you wait and it’s a strikeout. And these girls learned to swing the bat.”

The Blue Jays were 7-and-3 on the regular season while the Fury were 9-and-1. Montgomery's team became cohesive as the season went on.

“They really got close,” he said. “We played two games a week and we tried to practice at least once a week... We had four girls on the Ice team for the A and four players on the Ice team for the B, they were all together, but the three who weren’t playing (as much), they jelled really quick because those girls had learned to make a team with those Ice players.”
