Warriors defenceman Tyler Brown is from Olympia, Washington and is one of two Americans on the Warriors' roster this year.

There will no doubt be some bragging rights on the line on Wednesday afternoon in the Moose Jaw Warriors’ locker room when Canada collides with the United States at the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Moose Jaw’s roster features 20 Canadians and two Americans, so to say Tyler Brown and Blake Bargar are hoping for a Team USA win would a big understatement.

“We’re wearing it proudly in the locker room, it doesn’t matter if we’re out numbered, but we’re still out there supporting them,” said Brown, who hails from Olympia, Washington.

The two American players are torn however between cheering for their country and rooting for their captain, Brayden Point, when watching today’s first place showdown between the rival nations.

“Hopefully US wins, it’s obviously who I want to win, but I also hope Pointer does good, I’m rooting for him,” said Blake Bargar, a rookie from Torrance, California.  “There’s definitely a rivalry in the locker room.”

Much like Canadian hockey fans, both Bargar and Brown said they grew up watching the World Juniors on TV during the Christmas holidays.

“It was a big thing for me watching it every Christmas, it was always fun to watch,” said Brown.  “When the US finally pulled out that gold in 2010, it was awesome.”

Bargar added that it’s a little different this year being in Canada and seeing the coverage that the tournament gets on a daily basis across the country.

“It’s always on Sportscentre and it’s all they talk about during this time of year and it’s really neat,” said the 16-year-old forward.

The big storyline heading into the game, as it’s been all tournament, is the showdown between top NHL Draft prospects Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel.

Brown has an inside view of the two players after facing them at a tournament in Peewee.

“They’re still as good as they are now, they dominated the play,” he said.  “It’s crazy to think back about all the players that you play against when you’re younger, it’s kind of surreal.

“Obviously they were good, I didn’t think they were going to turn into such big names, but they were still very good.”

Brown added with a laugh that his team came out on the losing end in both contests against McDavid and Eichel.

With the Canada-USA game happening before the Warriors hit the ice at Mosaic Place, you can expect there will be more than a few eyes on it as they prepare for their game.

Canada and the US hit the ice at 3:00pm on Wednesday afternoon, while the Warriors battle the Regina Pats at 7:00pm at Mosaic Place.
