Josh Brook won’t have to take the 'C' off his jersey when he suits up for Team WHL next week during the 2018 Canada Russia Series.

The Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman was named the captain of Team WHL on Tuesday.

"It’s a huge honour, it’s a team full of leaders and to be chosen to be a leader on the team, it feels great," said Brook after the announcement.

Brook will be joined in the Team WHL leadership group by Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Jordy Bellerive, Everett Silvertips forward Connor Dewar, and Portland Winterhawks forward Cody Glass, who will serve as assistant captains.

Brook said he will be leading by example when he puts on the Team WHL jersey next week, "My leadership style is just about working hard and earning respect through that, maybe say a few words in the room, but not too much," he said.

Team WHL will square off with the Russians coming up on Monday in Kamloops, B.C. and Tuesday in Vancouver to open the six-game Canada Russia Series, which is entering its 15th year and pits the Russians against the Canadian Hockey League in a tune-up for the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Brook is looking forward to taking on the Russians, "They’re very skilled and you just prepare like you do for any other game, just try to play your game and be comfortable out there on the ice," he said.

The Roblin, MB product has put together a strong start to his 19-year-old season with the Warriors with five goals and 13 points through 10 games.

It would be a surprise if Brook isn’t invited to Hockey Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp in December, but he said he wants to go out next week and show that he belongs there.

"Growing up, you wake up in the morning on your Christmas break and get excited to watch those games, so it would be awesome to be able to make that team and wear the maple leaf," said Brook.

The Warriors will be well represented on Team WHL with Brook being joined by forward Justin Almeida, defenceman Jett Woo, and head coach Tim Hunter, who’s coaching Team WHL for the third straight year.

"To have four guys going, it’s huge for the organization and I’m excited to be going with them," said Brook.

The Warriors are back on the ice coming up on Friday when they host the Saskatoon Blades at Mosaic Place. Moose Jaw welcomes in the Kootenay Ice on Saturday.
