Moose Jaw's Sawyer Buettner and Levi Paul each had big games on Saturday to help the Regina Thunder to a comeback 29-26 win over the Saskatoon Hilltops in the Bridge City.

Buettner had another stellar day passing as he completed 33-of-40 passes for 374 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the win.

The Peacock connection worked well in the game as Paul finished as Buettner’s top target with ten catches for 120 yards.

Isaac Foord and Lee Brown caught the two touchdown passes from Buettner, while Victor St. Pierre Laviolette was the Thunder’s top rusher with nine carries for 82 yards and a touchdown.

The Hilltops jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and led 20-6 at halftime, but the Thunder mounted a big come back in the second half.

It started when Buettner connected with Foord for an 11-yard touchdown with just nine seconds remaining in the third quarter to cut Saskatoon’s lead to 20-14.

The Hilltops pushed their lead back to double digits early in the fourth quarter with another touchdown.

St. Pierre Laviolette rumbled into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown run with 7:32 left in the game to make it 26-21 and then with just one minute remaining, Buettner found Brown in the end zone for an eight yard touchdown. He hit Paul for the two-point convert to seal the win.

With the win, the Thunder were able to avenge their season opening loss to the Hilltops and now sit at 3-1 on the year, which has them tied with Saskatoon for second in the Prairie Football Conference. The Edmonton Huskies are first at 4-0.

The Thunder return to the field on Saturday when they host the Winnipeg Rifles at Mosaic Stadium. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
