Luka Burzan and Jett Woo have shared a lot of experiences so far in their young hockey careers from being drafted only two picks apart by the Moose Jaw Warriors to suiting up for Canada at a number of events together.

Now they will be adding another experience to the list next month as both Warriors were invited to participate in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday.

“It feels pretty good, I just found out a couple of minutes ago, so it’s a pretty good feeling to be recognized as one of those top players is always a great feeling,” said Woo.

The two Warriors are part of a group of just nine players from the Western Hockey League that will be taking part in the game, which features the top draft eligible players from the CHL’s three leagues.

Woo and Burzan will be suiting up on the same team for the game.

“We’ve shared a lot of great experiences together and this is the next one, it will be cool to go with him, we’re on the same team, so that’s pretty special,” said Burzan, who has four goals and 15 points through 33 games this season.

The offensive production may not be where Burzan wants it yet this season, but the Surrey, B.C. product said he’s been able to contribute in other ways.

“I’ve struggled a bit offensively, but I’ve learned a lot about doing other things to help my team win and I’m just trying to play my role, do whatever I can to help the team win,” said Burzan.

“If you play a good defensive game, it’s just as important as your offensive game and if you play a good defensive game, the chances will come and I’m getting chances, so it’s just a matter of time before they start to go in.”

Going into a game where a lot of NHL scouts and general managers will be on hand to see the top available talent for June’s NHL Draft, it will be a big opportunity to showcase what separates Woo and Burzan from the pack.

Burzan said he’s going to focus on what he does well and show that, “Just stay calm and play my game,” he said. “The goal is to just go in there and play my game, I know how to play and I’m not going to worry too much about the scouts, just show what I have.”

Woo registered six goals and 17 points in 18 games before going down with an upper body injury that has caused him to miss the past 15 games.

The Winnipeg product said he’s focused on rejoining the Warriors when he’s at 100-percent and not rushing back.

“I’m feeling pretty good, I still have a bit of pain lingering, but with the help of our athletic therapist and all the doctors, it’s been going really well and hopefully I can keep that going into the break,” said Woo.

While missing any time during a season is disappointing, Woo added that he’s been taking the time off the ice as an opportunity to learn more about the game.

“When you watch the game from upstairs, it slows down and you can see play happening before they do, so it’s been good in that way,” said Woo. “I’m just trying to do my best to get back on the ice and hopefully it’s soon.”

The 26th annual Top Prospects Game goes on Jan. 25 in Guelph, Ont.

Warriors Stay in Second… This week’s CHL Top-10 rankings were released on Wednesday with the Moose Jaw Warriors staying in the second slot after moving back up there last week. Moose Jaw went 4-0 during the weekly period as they extended their winning streak to six games. The Warriors only trail the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, who have won 18 straight games.
