File photo.The Moose Jaw High School Junior Basketball League returned from the Christmas break on Wednesday night with a busy six-game slate around the city.

 

There were a couple of tight games and a few blowouts as the teams shook off the rust.

 

Peacock Green 81 Riverview 16

 

A dominating second half powered the Peacock Green Toilers to a big 81-16 win over the Riverview Royals in their junior boys matchup on Wednesday night at Peacock Collegiate.

 

Peacock held a 38-9 lead at halftime, but they exploded for 43 points in the second half to cruise to the easy win.

 

Stephen Holzer led the offence for the Green Toilers with 18 points and Tyler Huff chipped in with 16 points.  Brandon Harris was Riverview’s top scorer with seven in the loss.

 

Peacock White 47 Caronport 33

 

The Peacock White Toilers were able to force a number of turnovers out of the Caronport Cougars and pulled away for a 47-33 win in junior boys action on Wednesday.

 

The big difference in the win for Peacock was an 11-0 second quarter that set them up with a 23-12 lead at halftime.  They held off the Cougars from there.

 

Peacock’s Jed Bell led all scorers with 12 points in the win.

 

Central 101 Craik 29

 

The Central Cyclones showed no rust coming off the Christmas break as they cruised past the Craik Cougars by a wide 101-29 margin.

 

It was a consistent effort from quarter-to-quarter for the Cyclones in the win as they took a 26-9 lead after the first quarter; went up 46-12 heading into halftime; and extended that lead to 72-20 by the end of the third.

 

David Simon paced the offence with 20 points, while Dez Henrikson added 16 for the Cyclones in the win.  Evan Fiman was the Cougars top scorer with 17 points.

 

Cornerstone 67 Vanier 66

 

A back-and-forth game between the Cornerstone Falcons and Vanier Vikings came right down to the wire on Wednesday night.  Cornerstone held on for the 67-66 win in junior boys action.

 

The Vikings trailed by 15 points at halftime, but battled hard to erase the deficit in the second half.  The comeback eventually came up short in the final seconds with the Falcons holding on.

 

Nathan Lewis had a strong game with 24 points for Cornerstone and Kaleb Seida added 23 points in the win.  

 

Central 67 Riverview 27

 

Rae Whitehead paced the Central Cyclones in a 67-27 win over the Riverview Royals in junior girls basketball action on Wednesday.

 

Whitehead had 26 points for the Cyclones as they played a strong second half on the way to the win.

 

Central had just a 26-18 lead at halftime, but outscored the Royals 41-9 in the second half to pull away.

 

Awar Odhiang was the top scorer for Riverview with 12 points in the loss.

 

Vanier 49 Peacock 45

 

The Peacock Toilers and Vanier Spirits battled in a tight four-point game on Wednesday in the return to the court for both junior girls squads.

 

They were tied at 20-20 at halftime, but Vanier did just a bit more in the second half to pull away for a 49-45 win.

 

Kirah Brown led Vanier with 11 points in the win, while Hannah Wilder chipped in with eight points.  Peacock’s Jaycee Richards had a game-high 15 points in the loss.
