The local high school soccer teams will be fighting for their seasons over the course of the weekend with the SHSAA Soccer Regional Championships underway.

The Peacock Tornadoes picked up a massive win over the Caronport Cougars to kick-off the 2A Girls Regional tournament on Friday here in Moose Jaw, winning 8-0 at the Sunningdale Soccer Field.

Makayla McRoberts posted a hat trick in the win for Peacock, while Keisha Anakaer, Myra Szabo, Katherine McDougall, Autumn Koroluk and Jayme Hoffman all added singles.

Emighyn Hutchinson picked up the shutout in net for the Tornadoes.

The win puts Peacock into the semifinal against Weyburn on Saturday morning at 9:30am, while the other semifinal has the Vanier Spirits taking on the Central Cyclones at 11:30am.

The final goes at 3:00pm with the two semifinal winners advancing to provincials next week in Meadow Lake.

The 2A Boys Regional in Kipling opened on Friday with the Vanier Vikings and Central Cyclones both falling in their semifinal match-ups.

After beating the hosts, 1-0, in the quarterfinals to start the day, the Vikings went on to lose 7-0 to Yorkton Sacred Heart in the semifinal later in the afternoon on Friday.

Central dropped a 3-1 game to Notre Dame in the other semifinal, putting them into the third place game against Vanier on Saturday.

The winner between the Cyclones and Vikings will advance to provincials next week, while both Notre Dame and Yorkton have advanced.

The Peacock Tornadoes are hosting the 3A Boys Regional tournament this weekend with the games getting underway on Saturday.

Peacock will take on Prince Albert St. Mary on Saturday morning at 9:30am, while the other semifinal has Swift Current going against Prince Albert Carlton at 11:30am.  Both games go at the Canada Games Soccer Field.

The two teams that advance into the final, at 3:00pm on Saturday, will head to provincial next week.
