Moose Jaw’s Rowan Calvert is happy to be with the Saskatoon Blades organization.

The Blades picked the bantam AA Warriors forward 187th overall but he was thrilled to have his name called.

“It was a bit of a surprise but it was more of an exciting moment,” said Calvert. “I knew it was a possibility that I could get drafted but …. It was definitely exciting and a surprising moment.”

Calvert played the last couple of seasons with the bantam AA Warriors, scoring a total of 33 goals and 29 assists for 62 points in 62 games. Calvert also played six games also with the midget AA Warriors in 2018-19.

“I did take one of their pre-draft surveys, but I didn’t talk to any scouts or anyone like that from Saskatoon,” Calvert said.

He’ll be playing for the U16 Prep team at the Prairie Hockey Academy next season, which is the same place his older brother Atley played for two seasons.

“My brother went out there a few years ago and it was a great experience for him, and I’m hoping it’ll be the same experience for me,”Rowan Calvert said.
