The Moose Jaw Canadians made quick work of the Little Black bear Blues team last night at Lyle Helland Diamond at Memorial Field

The Canadians won 10-0 in four innings thanks to the Mercy Rule, improving them to 6-and-1 on the season.

Third baseman Jay Livingston did a fair chunk of the damage with a fourth-inning grand slam, and he talked about how the Canadians' season.

“Every game I play, every team’s been good,” he said. “You’re going to catch teams on bad nights once in a while. We pitched well and hit well and played good defence. That was the story.”

Blues’ starter Darion Bellegarde, who had the lone hit in the game for the Blues, had a bit of a knuckleball working on a few Canadians batters but they were still able to pile up four runs in the first inning and get the win from there.

It’s been that kind of a season for the Canadians, who have been sharp in all of their games.

On the bump, Canadians starting pitcher Blake Dixon struck out six in the game and allowed only one hit.

“You’re constantly putting pressure, and Blake threw a great game,” Livingston said. “It’s tough to lose when your pitcher throws up zeros every inning. That was the biggest thing, and (when) baserunners get an opportunity, it just kind of worked out.”

The Canadians have outscored the opposition 39-11 this season in their seven games, with a few of those wins posted by Dean Holoien already this year.

“We played good defence, and obviously we had good pitching (this year),” Livingston said. “We just scored enough to get it done tonight. We were on it, but with the pitching we have, and the good defence, we’ll win a lot more than we lose.”

Yesterday evening's second game saw the Moose Jaw Giants edge the Blues 6-5. Kevin Knelson's sixth-inning RBI single drove home Tyler Kifferling with the winning run.

Pitching in relief for the Giants, Al Muhle struck out seven in four innings and didn't allow a hit.

Tuesday is the next action for both Moose Jaw teams at Memorial Field. The Canadians play the winless Regina Gold at 7 and the Giants play the Golden Hawks at 9.
