The Moose Jaw Canucks just continue to chug along this week as they won their second game in as many nights on Thursday.

The Canucks picked up their second straight mercy win, beating the Regina Mets 12-2 in five innings at Ross Wells Park.  The win improved their record to 10-4 in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League’s midget AA division.

“It’s really good to get a few wins in a row,” said starting pitcher Kurtis MacDonald.  “We’re really hitting the ball hard and our pitching has been pretty good, so it’s all coming together.”

Thursday’s win comes one night after the Canucks topped the Regina Buffalo, 12-2, at Ross Wells.  It’s the team’s third straight win overall.

“We’re hitting the ball good, we’re fielding good, it’s all coming together and we’re playing really well,” said MacDonald.

MacDonald pitched the five complete innings, giving up two runs in the fourth.  He was able to keep the Mets in check for the rest of the contest with all four of their hits coming in the fourth.

MacDonald struck out three and walked just one in the win.

“I didn't strike that many guys out, it was all our defence, they did a really good job today,” he said.  “Getting the support from the offence felt really good, and like I said, both sides of the game were really good, the offence and the defence.”

At the plate, the Canucks did the majority of their damage in the first inning, scoring seven runs in the opening frame to kick things off.  Shortstop Dawson Kurz and second baseman Reece Helland both walked to lead-off the inning and then came around to score on a two-run triple from centerfielder Garrick Ward.

MacDonald helped out his own cause with a walk and then scored when the next three batters for the Canucks all walked, and also eventually came around to score.

Moose Jaw was held off the board again until the third when they tacked on five more runs to take a 12-0 lead and cruise to the quick win.

“Games like these we’ve got to capitalize on them and not let them back into the game, and that’s what we did, we were able to mercy them,” said MacDonald.

The Canucks will be back on the field for a pair of games in Regina this weekend.  They face the White Sox on Saturday and then battle the Buffalo on Sunday.
