It took a seventh inning rally in their final game, but the Moose Jaw Canucks went through round robin play with a perfect 3-0 record at the 2018 Baseball Saskatchewan Midget AA Tier 2 Provincial Championship.

After winning over the Regina Pacers on Friday, the Canucks carried the momentum over to a 13-5 win over the Saskatoon Thunder Braves and then won in walk-off fashion against the Prince Albert Royals on Saturday at Ross Wells Park.

The Canucks will now face the Dinsmore Dynamos in the provincial semifinal on Sunday in Regina.

Coming off a strong offensive performance in Friday’s win over the Pacers, the Canucks kept the pedal down offensively against the Thunder Braves on Saturday morning.

Moose Jaw scored three in the first inning and added two more in the second inning to help build up an 8-4 lead after five innings.

The Canucks tacked on three more runs in the sixth and two for insurance in the seventh to cruise to the victory.

Brydon Pow went 5-for-5 with a double, four runs scored and three RBI, while Riley Skarbon was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Tysen Jordison finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Tyler Lorenz also collected two hits in the win for the Canucks.

Lorenz started for Moose Jaw, allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings, while Ryley Gross finished the game, giving up three runs — one earned — on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Canucks 15 Prince Albert 14

Moose Jaw started strong again in their round robin finale, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning against Prince Albert.

Keian Klein drove in a pair with a single during the five-run first inning for the Canucks.

After a scoreless second inning, the Royals would score every inning for the rest of the game, including taking a 6-5 lead in the top of the fourth inning when they scored four runs.

The Canucks retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Prince Albert scored three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to move in front 12-7.

Quincy Johnson singled in a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead down to four, but Prince Albert answered with two runs in the top of the seventh to give themselves a six-run cushion heading into the final frame.

Moose Jaw’s first three hitters in the seventh were able to work a walk to load the bases for Pow, who ripped a two-run double to cut the lead to four.

Jordison drove in another run with a one-out single, while Pow came around to score on an error to make it a two-run game.

After another walk, Klein singled in another run, which was followed by a walk from Taylor Hicke to load the bases.

Ryan Zerff walked in the game-tying run and in the very next at-bat, Lorenz was hit by a pitch to score the game-winning run and send the Canucks into the playoff round.

Chayce Vanthuyne allowed six runs on four hits and four walks over 3 1/3 innings. He also struck out two.

Jeremy Kohl gets the win for the Canucks after allowing eight runs — six earned — on nine hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out one.
