The Moose Jaw Canucks played a tightly contested doubleheader against the Regina Buffalo on Saturday. The Buffalo took the first game, 8-6, and then the Canucks rebounded with a 5-3 win in the second game of the double bill at Ross Wells Park.

The split puts Moose Jaw's record at 4-4 on the year in the midget AA division of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League.

The Canucks are off now until next Wednesday when they host the Regina Blue Jays at Ross Wells Park.

Buffalo 8 Canucks 6

The first game was a pitchers duel for the first three innings before the Buffalo broke things open with two runs in the fourth.

They extended that lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth, but the Canucks struck back in the bottom half of the inning. Chayce Vanthuyne smacked a bases loaded single with two outs to score a pair of runs and Quincy J. followed it up with a double to add another run, tying the game at 3-3.

The back-and-forth continued in the sixth inning as Regina moved back in front with two runs, but the Canucks answered with three runs, including a two-run double by Ryan Zerff, to take their first lead of the game.

It wasn’t meant to be however as the Buffalo came back with five singles in their first six batters in the seventh to score three runs and go up in front for good.

Zerff started for the Canucks and threw six innings, allowing five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits. He struck out eight and walked just one.

Tyler Lorenz came on in relief for the seventh and gave up three earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.

Moose Jaw was held to just five hits, but worked eight walks in the game and only struck out five times.

Canucks 5 Buffalo 3

Tysen Jordison pitched the Canucks to a win in the second game of the doubleheader. He struck out nine over six innings of work, allowing just three earned runs on nine hits. He also surrendered two walks.

The Canucks actually trailed for much of the game, falling behind 2-1 after the third and 3-2 after four.

Moose Jaw did their damage in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three times to move in front 5-3. Zerff drove in the first run of the inning with a bases loaded walk and Bryden Pow smacked a two-out single that cashed in the other two runs.

Pow finished off the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one and walking one.

The Canucks were outhit 9-4 in the game, but good plate discipline again paid dividends as they walked six times in the win.
