Regina pitcher Brandon Radmacher was unhittable on Saturday at Ross Wells Park.

Fans that turned out to Ross Wells Park on Saturday for the Moose Jaw Midget AAA Cardinals pair of games to open the 2011 season were witnesses to perfection.  Regina Athletics pitcher Brandon Radmacher threw a perfect game in their 7-0 win over Moose Jaw.

"You just can't say enough good about Brandon, he's that kind of a guy, and if somebody is going to do that against you, I'm glad it was him," said Cardinals coach Roger Anholt after the game.

Radmacher attacked the Cardinal batters all game long, striking out nine, without much effort.  He says he just tried to stay focused and keep throwing strikes, "At first I didn't really think about doing it, but when it actually started kicking that I have a chance around the fifth inning I just kept going and it never got into my head, just kept focusing on the mitt," said Radmacher.

Radmacher was given a 1-0 lead after the top of the first to work with and kept the Moose Jaw batters off balance with a nasty curveball.

"I've been working on that 12-6 curveball," added Radmacher, "I had a sweeping curveball and now it's affective throwing the 12-6."

The bottom of the second was a breeze as Radmacher needed only three pitches to get past the Cards.  After Regina added four more runs in the top of the third, Radmacher struck out two of the three batters in bottom half.

Radmacher cruised the rest of the way, striking out one in the final inning, before getting Mike Miller to ground out to the shortstop to complete the perfect game.

For the Cardinals, it's back to the batting cage to figure out what happened on the opening weekend.  They lost earlier in the afternoon 9-5 to the Wolfpack.

Anholt says they need to be more disciplined at the plate going forward, "We certainly have to get in the cage and do some work with our hitting, our bat speed is too slow, I think it comes right down to the approach and in Game Two, the approach wasn't what we needed it to be, but credit to Brandon, he put on a show."

Moose Jaw's next two games won't get any easier as they host the defending league champion Saskatoon Giants for a doubleheader this Saturday at Ross Wells Park.  First pitch is at 1pm.
