Duron Carter is switching sides again. The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be using the star receiver at defensive back this week against the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Riders needed to fill a hole on defence after one of the stars of their season-opening win over the Toronto Argonauts, Nick Marshall, was added to the six-game injured list.

Head coach Chris Jones said that Carter is their best option with the short week and his experience at the position last season and during training camp.

"He'll be even better than what he was last year, he's a better DB right now than what he was when we played him last year against Calgary, so I expect him to go in an help us win the football game," said Jones after practice on Tuesday.

Carter returned an interception for a touchdown in his lone start on defence against the Stampeders last year. Marshall had a pick-six of his own last Friday, as his touchdown sealed the Riders’ 27-19 victory over the Argonauts at Mosaic Stadium.

Carter will be playing exclusively on defence and the Riders plan on adding another receiver to the roster to take his place on offence.

"Duron's not Superman, contrary to what he might tell you. He's an outstanding player, he can play certainly a lot of plays and do a lot of things," said Jones.

The Riders are hosting a walkthrough on Parliament Hill on Wednesday and then they take on the Redblacks in the nation’s capital on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
