Peacock takes over Riverview/Cornerstone

The High School Senior Basketball season just kicked off before the Christmas break with most teams able to get in a couple of games.

In the Boys Division, the Central Cyclones are out in front with two straight wins to start the year.  They demolished the Caronport Cougars in the season opener, 114-40.  But, they had to fight for a win against Vanier in their second game last week, winning 66-41.

Vanier is currently sitting tied with Central for top spot after having played three games, and going 2-1, before the break.  They won their first two, beating Riverview/Cornerstone, 81-44, in the opener and then knocking off Caronport, 82-42.

Peacock has played just once so far this season, beating Caronport 90-40 in Week 2.

Caronport and Riverview/Cornerstone are both winless to start the season.

On the Girls Division side, the Caronport Cougars are the dominant team in the early portion of the season, winning their first two games.  They took out Central, 43-30 in the season opener, and then rolled over Vanier, 68-39, in their second game.

Peacock is also undefeated, but just like the boys, they’ve only played one game so far this season.  They beat Assiniboia, 79-43, in their opener.

The Toiler girls are tied with Central and Vanier for second spot.  The Cyclones have went 1-1 in the first two games, losing to Caronport and then bouncing back with a tight 43-42 win over Vanier last week.

The Spirits beat Assiniboia 65-60 to kick off the year, but have dropped back-to-back games since, losing to Caronport and Central.

The league returns on Tuesday, January 8th with a busy schedule the Vanier boys and girls host Peacock.  The Central boys will be at Riverview/Cornerstone and the girls will travel down to Assiniboia.

The Junior league is back the following night on January 9th.
