The Central Cyclones will have a chance to defend their Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League title.

The Cyclones advanced to the final with a 4-1 win over the Peacock Tornadoes in Wednesday's semifinal meeting at the Canada Games Soccer Field.

“The boys played really well today, I was really happy with what I saw out there,” said Central head coach Jason Brown after the win.

An opportunistic attack from the Cyclones led to three goals in the second half to win the game.

Dilnessa Ayaleo scored in the first half to give Central a 1-0 lead at halftime before Max Pilsworth scored a pair and Abdul Ali added the other marker in the second half to propel Central to the win.

Brown said it was their defence that stood out most to him.

“We're finally starting to sure up the defensive end,” he said. “They're starting to buy into that they can't just play man-on-man defence, that we have to play a system defence.”

A tough break for the Tornadoes early in the first half ended up changing the complexion of the game. Peacock lost their goal keeper to injury early in the game, which pushed a player that hadn't played goal before into the net.

“Everyone had to play different positions and stuff and that really changed the game,” said Peacock coach Jordan Jeffery. “We didn't really have a second keeper, so it definitely gave Central a bit of an advantage on us.”

Despite the loss, Jeffery was very happy with the push that he saw out of his team during the second half as they pressured the Cyclones throughout.

“We really, really fought as a team,” he said. “The second half, the ball barely left the final third for us, we really did press on them, but we lacked that final finish.”

Burke Andean scored the lone goal for the Tornadoes in the second half.

Central will now face either the fourth place Vanier Vikings or the first place Weyburn Eagles in the league final. Vanier and Weyburn meet in their semifinal match on Monday at 4:00pm.

The league final is set for next Wednesday.
