Another chapter in the storied rivalry between the Peacock Tornadoes and Central Cyclones will be written on Friday afternoon.

Peacock and Central both enter their battle at Gutheridge Field undefeated at 3-0 on the year and both teams will be looking to take control of the Moose Jaw High School Football League with a win.

“It's always an exciting game when you've got a rival school and it just makes it even more exciting with both teams being 3-0.,” said Peacock defensive lineman Griffin Barrett. “Central is a great team, we're really excited to play them and it just makes this week very special.”

The Tornadoes are coming off a dominating 60-0 win over the Vanier Vikings last Saturday, while the Cyclones topped the Yorkton Raiders 43-36 earlier that day to remain undefeated.

Both teams are playing on top of their game heading into the meeting and they will determine who's the league's top team this season on the field.

“The last couple of practices have been very intense, so we're trying to carry that over to the game,” said Central running back Aidan Baillie.

The Cyclones have used a strong rushing attack to propel themselves to an unbeaten start, but going against the stiff Tornadoes defence will be a difference challenge. Peacock comes in having allowed just seven points in three games and just held the league's top rushing back, Vanier's Kelton Kouri, to just 25 yards.

“Our pass game will be our strongest point,” said Baillie. “They really lock down the run game pretty well, all around they have a good defence, but we're going to need our pass game to be a little bit better than our run game.”

Central's offence has been dangerous at times this year with running back Zach Hagerman coming off a 325-yard game against Yorkton. Jonah Branning has scored six touchdowns, Aiden Coleman can score at any point and Baillie has been a strong contributor as well.

Peacock knows they're going to have a tough test ahead.

“They've got some really key weapons there with Branning and Coleman, and Hagerman at running back,” said Barrett. “We just need to play our game and play our position and we should be fine.

“We've come into the week needing to improve, this week it's been a big challenge with their key guys and we just need to shut them down and do our job.”

The Tornadoes are the three-time defending league champions, while the Cyclones have struggled in recent years, but have returned to prominence this season. Their real test will come on Friday and whether they can pass the test that is Peacock.

“This is our next step, Peacock is a very good team, obviously they've shown that for the past few years, so this determines if this is going to be our season right here,” said Baillie.

Central and Peacock hit the gridiron at Gutheridge Field at 4:00pm on Friday afternoon.

In other Week 5 action in the Moose Jaw High School Football League, the Yorkton Raiders host the Weyburn Eagles for their annual “Friday Night Lights” game at 7:00pm on Friday.

While the week wraps up with the Swift Current Colts hosting the Estevan Elecs for a 2:00pm kick-off on Saturday.
