Central Collegiate’s Ray-Lyn Schmidt put together two consistent rounds to secure a fifth place finish in the female division at the SHSAA golf provincial championship over the weekend.

Schmidt finished just three shots back of the winner, Carrot River’s Tenesha Pompu, who posted a final round 89 to win by one stroke on Saturday at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club in Estevan.

Schmidt sat tied for fourth place after Friday’s opening round 92 that saw the golfers battle some cold temperatures, rain and over an hour delay due to lightning.

In the second round on Saturday, the local golfer was three shots better, firing an 89, which was just one shot behind Creighton’s Lauren Fox for the low round of the day.

Estevan’s Jace Carlisle won the male provincial title, winning by five strokes over North Battleford Comp’s Colby Friederich.

Estevan also won both team events.  Click here for the full results.
