Central QB Bren Forbes scrambles away from a Swift Current defender earlier this season.

High School Football returns to Gutheridge Field on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader.

The early game features 1-1 Peacock going against 1-2 Vanier in the second game this week for both teams, while 2-0 Central will try to remain unbeaten in the late game against 0-3 Estevan.

The Cyclones are coming off a 21-6 win in Weyburn last week, but that victory didn't come easy for the league's top team as they trailed, 6-1, heading into halftime.

"We certainly did come out slow.  The defence had trouble figuring out their offence and our offence just couldn't get anything going," said Colin Belsher, Central's head coach.  "The Grade 12s and our other leaders really stepped up and took it personally how they were playing and the second half was the product of playing extremely hard."

Central has a big group of Grade 12s with 20 on the roster and Belsher says he was really happy to see the leadership they showed in a tough game, "There's only so much we can do as coaches and you certainly need those leaders on the team because without them, who does the team follow.  We really have a good group of leaders this year and I'm really excited for them."

Estevan has yet to win so far this year, but they've put up a fight in all three losses and Belsher says he's not looking at this game as a battle of first-vs-worst, "The main focus is just play the best that we can regardless of the team that we're playing, regardless of it's a 0-2 team, or a 2-0 team, you want to play crisp and you want to continue to improve game by game."

Belsher adds that they're expecting a fight out of the Elecs on Saturday, "They're big and they work really hard.  They play right to the whistle and we expect a hard fought game, a physical game, and we know that Estevan isn't just going to come here and lie down for us."

The Cyclones and Elecs hit the field at 3:30pm.  Peacock and Vanier battle first at 1:00pm.  There's also an out-of-town game with the 2-0 Yorkton Raiders heading into Weyburn to take on the 1-2 Eagles.
