Central's Peter Ntigne bends his second goal of the game around the Vanier defenders on Monday.

The Central Cyclones continue to rule the High School Boys Soccer League picking up another win on Monday night, this time an 8-2 triumph over the Vanier Vikings at Gutheridge Field.

"There were certain things that I saw at points in the game that I was happy with," said Central head coach Mike DeCorby.  "We worked a lot on one-on-one defence and there's certain players that are phenomenal at it, but others need to get more invested in it.  We slacked off a bit after we got up."

Vanier kept it close in the first half as Central took a 2-0 lead into the break.  Peter Ntigne scored both of Central's goals, including one on a free kick just before halftime.

Early in the second half is when the Cyclones pulled away.  Shamaker Ali scored three straight goals before Ntigne added two more goals and Augustine Kamara finished the scoring for the Cyclones.

Brayden Tomac and Spence Krawczyk scored for Vanier in the loss.

DeCorby says their focus continues to be on playing better team defence and he's happy with what he's seeing so far, "We're still working on the progress of defence, but we're trying to get that organized.  Mainly the focus has been team work.

"Last season I didn't have to do much offensively with those boys, but we've got some returning players that help those young guys out."

The Cyclones have already played two games in league play already and DeCorby says he likes what he's seeing so far, "As a long time soccer player in Moose Jaw it's nice to see the league up and going and hopefully it will get more players involved too."

The next Boys league action is on Wednesday with Riverview/Cornerstone battling Vanier at Gutheridge Field.

The Girls League has a pair of games on Tuesday, including Central hosting Weyburn at Sunningdale Field at 4:30pm.
