The Canadian Football League has officially postponed the start of the 2020 season.

Randy Ambrosie, the league's commissioner, released a statement Tuesday morning saying that the season won't start before the beginning of July. Many CFL cities have enacted emergency regulations that wouldn't allow large public gatherings through the end of June.

"While it is now clear that the 2020 CFL season won’t start before the beginning of July, we are committed to working with our teams, the Players’ Association, TSN and RDS to play a full season or as close as we can come to one. We recognize this may require some creativity and we are preparing for multiple scenarios," the statement said.

Last week, the CFL postponed training camps, which would have started in the middle of May.
