For the first time in franchise history, the Moose Jaw Chiefs won’t be playing for the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League’s Senior Division Championship.

The Chiefs lost 16-6 to the Regina Heat in semifinal action on Saturday night in the Queen City, ending their season.

The Chiefs had played the Saskatoon Brewers for the league title in each of the last three seasons, winning in 2015.

In other lacrosse action on Saturday, the Bantam Mustangs beat the Regina Hawks, 13-9, to finish of the regular season in the South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League.

Liam Fitzpatrick led the Mustangs with a hat trick and four points, while Ethan Johnson had a hat trick in the win.

Carter Michaluk and Jacob Gyman had two goals and three points each, while Jake Williams also struck for a pair of goals. 

Braxton Mac Angus chipped in with a goal and three points, and Brennan Blatz added four assists for the Mustangs.

The Bantam Mustangs finished the regular season with a 7-4-1 record, which put them in a tie with the Swift Current Rampage for second place.

The playoffs go on Sunday at the Kinsmen Arena here in Moose Jaw with the Mustangs and Rampage meeting in the semifinal at 11:30 p.m. The league final is at 4:30 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the Moose Jaw Midget Mustangs closed out their regular season with a 15-5 win over Standing Buffalo.

Atley Calvert exploded for six goals and ten points in the win for the Mustangs, while Kael Nichols posted a hat trick and six points.

Blake Butler and Caelan Fitzpatrick had two goals and three points each.

Kayde Shymko and Rowan Calvert also scored once each in the win.

The Midget Mustangs posted a 7-4-1 record to finish in third place in the division this season.

The Midget Playoffs will be hosted here in Moose Jaw on Saturday with the Mustangs going up against the Regina Rush in the semifinals at 1 p.m. The league championship game is at 5:30 p.m.
