The Briercrest Clippers women’s volleyball team kept their hold strong on top spot of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference with two more wins over the weekend.

The Clippers hit the road to Calgary over the weekend and dropped just one set in two showdowns with the SAIT Trojans, winning in four sets (23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-12) on Friday and in three (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) on Saturday.

Briercrest improves to 19-1 on the year with 18 straight wins, which has them in first place in the South Division by eight points over Red Deer College. They’re also in first place overall by two points over the undefeated Lakeland Rustlers, who are the top ranked team in the CCAA.

The Clippers are the fifth ranked team in the country.

On the men’s side, the Clippers came away with a split of their two games against the first place Trojans. They won in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18) on Saturday after losing in four sets (25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) on Friday.

The split puts the Clippers six points back of SAIT for top spot in the South Division.

Briercrest’s basketball teams were on their home court over the weekend, but came away without any wins against SAIT.

The women lost 58-46 to the Trojans on Friday and then dropped a 64-40 game on Saturday in Caronport. The Clippers are 3-10 on the year.

For the men, they lost 117-78 on Friday and fell 108-84 on Saturday as they continue to look for their first win of the season, now at 0-13.
