The Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre is shutting down for the next few weeks.

The facility could theoretically have stayed open for training – for the younger curlers especially – but it just wasn't in the cards, so the decision was made to shutter the doors to the ice until December 17th.

“We’re slated to take the three weeks off, and hopefully we’ll be back December 18th, depending on what the restrictions will be and what’s going on,” said curling programmer Rhonda Wenarchuk.

Even during October and November, the club was busy most afternoons and evenings with leagues, although rules were followed and starts to these leagues' gametimes were staggered. Wenarchuk said they will try to run through Christmas and New Years' to try to make up for the weeks of curling long.

“For the three weeks that we did the pause on, we’re going to run through the Christmas and New Years' week,” she said. “We usually don’t have anything going on, but this year we’re going to try to run everything that we can through there. And then we’re going to do some Saturdays, and some Saturday nights and Sundays for all those leagues that will miss those games.”

She said the members have been disappointed because they haven’t been able to get out and do anything.

“We’ve been pretty good at the club. We haven’t had any cases or anything,” she said. “It’s pretty safe there, but everybody kind of understands that they have to take a bit of a break and see how the numbers are and hopefully we’ll be able to get back on the 18th.”
