This week a good time to register for curling leagues at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.

With the ice going in this week and leagues starting Monday, there are still a few spots open in the various afternoon and evening leagues.

Curling Centre programmer Rhonda Wenarchuk said Monday night's two leagues are full.

“Tuesday night, we’re sitting at 12, so we could always use a few more,” said Wenarchuk. “Wednesday night, we’re at 13 in the (Original 16) Cash League. Thursday night we are at 12 teams, and Friday night we’re at three. So that could be family teams, or even a business wanted to put one in.”

While the cash league has some high-level competition, starting their action next Wednesday night, Wenarchuk suggested the Friday night league as something for those just learning how to curl, adding that it’s only six ends.

The Wednesday and Friday afternoon stick curling leagues are also open for new participants. Wenarchuk explains a bit about stick curling.

“Stick curling is mostly if you’ve got some issues with your knees and … if you don’t want to slide out,” said Wenarchuk. “It’s great and it’s only two on two, so there’s already a lot of social distancing there anyway. There’s not much change to that part of the game.”

The curling centre is open for registrations, and they're also accepting online registrations through the Curling I-O program, which is supported through Curl Canada.

The Sunday Legion league has been consistent with last year, and the youth league has about the same as last year.
