If you’ve never curled before, are looking to get reintroduced to the game or are an old pro, head down to the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Curl Moose Jaw is hosting a FunFest as a way to highlight the sport throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

“It’s an open house, it’s open all ages and whether you’ve curled or not, and we’re going to have lots of fun things going on through the afternoon,” said Shaunna Fritzler with the Curl Moose Jaw board.

All eight sheets will have different activities to take part in with the big event being the Iron Man competition.

“We’ve got a smart broom that measures how strong you sweep, we’ve got a speed trap to see how hard you can throw and then we’re going to set up a hot shot, which will be a draw through a port or behind a guard,” said Fritzler.

There will be prizes to be won based on how you finish in the Iron Man competition.  There will be door prizes to be won as well.

In addition to the Iron Man competition, there will be some learn-to-curl sessions happening and mixed doubles demonstrations.

“We’d like to invite the whole community down to check it out, throw some rocks and we’ll see who’s our strongest Iron Man curler by the end of the day,” said Fritzler.

“Curl Moose Jaw wanted to do something extra to support curling and give a little extra exposure to our game.”

Curling numbers have been stable over the last decade here in Moose Jaw with league nights full and more young curlers taking up the game.

“We’ve got lots of kids, youth curling is really growing and that’s thanks to a lot of work that Danielle (Sicinski, manager of the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre) has put into that program,” said Fritzler.  “We’re always excited to have new people join the club and take part in the activities.”

The FunFest will be running from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre in Mosaic Place.
