Moose Jaw’s Libby Epoch and Team Canada moved one step closer to a medal at the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday.

After finishing the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record thanks to Tuesday’s 74-70 win over Latvia, Canada kept it rolling in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, beating Mexico 64-43.

Epoch had a strong game with three points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal during 19:58 of playing time in the win.

Alyssa Jerome led the way for Canada with 12 points and five rebounds, while Summer Masikewich picked up ten points and seven rebounds. Aislinn Konig had a team-high five assists in the win.

Canada jumped out to a big 22-5 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 43-18 by halftime. They continued to roll in the third quarter as they push their lead to 59-23.

The Canadians will now wait for the winner between China and Egypt in the quarterfinals on Friday. The semifinal is Saturday and the Gold Medal Game goes on Sunday.
