Coming off a loss in Prince Albert on Friday, the Moose Jaw Warriors came out firing on Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Sam Fioretti scored a hat trick on the way to a 6-1 at Moasic Place.
Fioretti opened the scoring for the Tribe at 2:50 of the first period with a power play goal from Brayden Point and Joel Edmundson. Fioretti notched his second of the frame at 8:46, rookie Miles Warkentine picked up the only assist which happened to be his first point of his WHL career. At 11:50, Bryson Gore scored his first WHL goal when he beat Brandon goalie Corbin Boes after gobbling up a rebound on a Reid Jackson shot, the assist by Jackson was his first as a member of the Warriors.
Up 3-0 to start the second Moose Jaw added to their lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal from Carter Hansen, Morgan Rielly and Sam Fioretti picked up the helpers. Brandon’s Eric Roy put the visitors on the scoreboard at 8:25 when he finished an odd man rush; 16 year old Wheat King rookie Jayce Hawryluck recorded his first WHL point by picking up an assist.
It didn’t take long for the Warriors to respond; just under two minutes later Jordan Wyton scored his first of the year on a breakaway, which also happened to be his first goal at home during his three year career. Sam Fioretti finished off Moose Jaw’s second period with a power play with 18 second left in the frame, making it 6-1.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third, after all was said and done the Warriors skated away with the 6-1 win, improving their record to 2-2. Fioretti led the Warriors with three goals and four points; Wyton and Hansen had a goal and two points each; Morgan Rielly had two assists; Justin Paulic made 18 saves in the win; Moose Jaw was 3-for-4 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Moose Jaw will have the next couple of days to fine tune their game as they get set to renew their rivalry with the Regina Pats Wednesday night in the Queen City, catch all the action with James Gallo on Country 100 starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40pm.
