The Moose Jaw Kinsmen Flying Fins are doing some great things in the pool this season and that continued last weekend in Regina.

The local club walked away with the Top Small Club Award and two individual high point awards over the weekend at the Prairie Championships.

"It was a good long course meet for the whole team and I thought that I was able to perform well," said Cadence Johns, who captured seven gold medals to pick up the 13-14 Girls High Point Award.

Johns won gold in the 50, 100 and 200-metre backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, and 200m and 400m individual medley.

Johns said that she felt really good in the pool over the course of the weekend, "I was happy with most of my swims, but I was really happy with my 200-metre breaststroke in my final, it was only a second off my best time, and then I was happy with the two best times that I got in my 100 fly and 100 back," she said.

Olivia Harvey also came away with a high point award for the 15-and-over girls division. She won gold medals in the 50, 100, 200 and 400m free, and 50 and 200m back. She also captured silver in 200m fly.

14-year-old Reese Koch had a strong meet as well, winning a silver and two bronze medals. More importantly, however, she also hit a new Western Canadian qualifying time in 50m backstroke.

Koch said that's a big accomplishment for her, "It was my second one, so now I won't be going to Westerns with one, so it feels really nice to get more than one," she said.

"I do a lot of backstroke in training, so it's one of my best strokes and getting [that time] in 50 back is a really good feeling for me."

Chloe Johns also added two more Western Canadian times in 200 and 400m IM, while she hit new Canadian Junior times in 100 and 200m breaststroke. Johns also won two gold, two silver and a bronze medal at the meet.

In total, the Flying Fins won 23 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals at the Prairie Championship. Click here for full results.
