A couple more second round Stanley Cup Playoff series got underway on Friday night in the NHL.

The night started in the U.S. capital with the top seeded Washington Capitals falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 in their series opener.  Steve Downie led the way for the Lightning with a goal and two points.  Vincent Lecavalier chipped in with two assists.

Game 2 will go on Sunday at 5pm in Washington.

The Detroit Red Wings led for most of the game against the San Jose Sharks, but couldn't hold on as they fell 2-1 in overtime at the HP Pavilion.  Nicklas Lindstrom got the Red Wings on the board in the first period, but Joe Pavelski would send the game to overtime with a goal midway through the third.

Benn Ferriero scored in the extra frame to give the Sharks at 1-0 series lead.  They'll meet for Game 2 on Sunday at 1pm.

Another pair of games on the schedule for Saturday in the NHL, the Vancouver Canucks will look to earn their second straight win over the Nashville Predators.  Vancouver captured the series-opening game by a slim 1-0 margin.

Also, the Boston Bruins, who are coming off a seven-game series victory over Montreal, are on the road against the defending Eastern Conference-champion Philadelphia Flyers.
