The Saskatchewan Roughriders and veteran defensive back Ed Gainey have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension.

Gainey played all 18 regular-season games with the green and white in 2019, recording 56 tackles and two interceptions.

While 2021 would be his fifth season with the Roughriders, Gainey does have four seasons of CFL experience with Montreal and Hamilton. He has career totals of 272 defensive tackles, one sack and 20 interceptions in 114 career regular season games. He had two tackles in the 2019 Western Final against Winnipeg.

As of Monday afternoon, the Riders still have 11 players left to sign before free agency opens Feb. 9.
