Moose Jaw's Rhett Gardner had the best weekend of his NCAA career and that's earned him a National Collegiate Hockey Conference weekly award.

The University of North Dakota freshman centre was named NCHC Rookie of the Week on Monday after scoring four goals in two games over the weekend for the Fighting Hawks.

Gardner scored a pair of goals each night against Colorado College over the weekend with three of his four goals coming in the third period.

This is the first NCHC weekly award of Gardner's career. In 24 games this season, he has nine goals, tied for second most among NCHC rookies, and one assist.

Fellow Moose Jaw native Coltyn Sanderson, a senior with UND, scored in Friday's 5-5 tie against Colorado College.  He scored his first career NCAA goal the weekend before and now has two goals and four points in 19 games this season.

The Fighting Hawks currently rank second in the country with a 20-3-3 record.
