Another well played game for the Moose Jaw Generals on Tuesday and another game where they didn't come away with a win.

The Generals skated to a 3-3 tie against the Edmonton SSAC Athletics and now sit at 1-1-1 at the 2015 Mac's Midget AAA Tournament in Calgary.

“Overall it was a great effort again by our guys, but we've just got to eliminate the little mistakes if we want to win these kind of games,” said head coach Ray Wareham.

Moose Jaw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Tanner Manz and Jeremy Bisson, but Edmonton slowly chipped away at the lead over the next two periods. Arjun Atwal scored less than a minute after Bisson to make it 2-1 after one and then with just 18 seconds left in the second Elijah Brown tied the game for the Athletics.

The Generals continued to battle and 2:11 into the third period, Austen Flaman put Moose Jaw back in front by one. Edmonton responded quickly again with Peter Tomaras tying the game 1:33 later.

“I thought we were the better team and deserved a better fate, but that doesn't always happen,” said Wareham, who feels his team is right there with the best at the tournament.

“With our young lineup and we've been pretty stingy defensively, but we're making some mistakes at bad times and teams are capitalizing on it,” he added. “That's why you come here though, to face that kind of adversity, play under that kind of pressure and against these top notch teams.”

The Generals have been right there in all their games so far, winning their opener 4-2 over the California Wave before dropping a tight 3-1 game against the Calgary Flames.

Wareham feels they've done a lot of things right and are playing some of their best hockey of the year right now.

“Our work ethic, our penalty kill, our fore-check, we've done a lot of good things offensively, we're starting to get more pucks to the net, we're getting bodies to the net, so those things have been good,” said Wareham. “Our power play is still a major concern, it's cost us the last couple of games, if we get one on the power play then we probably win both games.”

The offence has been spread out for the Generals at the tournament with seven different players scoring and 14 different players registering a point for Moose Jaw.

“We've been just rolling the lines and some guys like Jake Tremblay and Austen Flaman have been real good, Caleb Riess has been fantastic,” said Wareham.

The Generals head into the final day of round robin play with a shot at advancing into the playoff round. The top-eight teams advance to the quarterfinal, meaning the Generals need to win and get some help.

“We're just worrying about ourselves,” said Wareham. “We've just got to keep doing things that we're doing, try to rectify that power play and get it going, and if we can, we'll be in good shape.”

Moose Jaw finishes off the round robin against the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs on Wednesday afternoon at 12:45pm.
