Generals' forward Trey Tendler had one of their two goals on Wednesday against Red Deer.

The Moose Jaw Generals started off the 35th annual Mac’s Tournament with a tight 4-2 loss to the Red Deer Chiefs on Wednesday morning in Calgary.

Trey Tendler and Riley Cannon scored for the Generals in their tournament opening loss.

Red Deer opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Rory Davidson midway through the first period.  The Generals would respond with a power play goal by Tendler on the same man advantage, but the Chiefs’ Garrett Engert restored the lead just 22 seconds later to send the game into the first break at 2-1.

The two teams skated through a scoreless second period before call-up Riley Cannon tied the game for the Generals with their second power play goal midway through the third.

Again the Chiefs would respond a short while later with Davidson picking up his second of the game to make it 3-2 with 9:44 to play.  Gabe Bast scored with one second left to finish off the 4-2 win.

Ryland Pashovitz had a busy game making 34 saves in the loss, while the Generals had just 13 shots on goal in the game.

Next up for the Generals will be the Lloydminster Bobcats on Friday night at the Father David Bauer Arena.  They wrap up the round robin with games against Pirati Chomutov and the Calgary Royals on Saturday and Sunday.
