The playoff push is over for the Moose Jaw Generals after they gave up three third-period goals to the Saskatoon Contacts in 4-2 loss at Mosaic Place on Saturday.

The loss eliminated the Generals from playoff contention in the Saskatchewan Midget 'AAA' Hockey League.

Despite being heavily outshot, 21-5, in the first period, the Generals were able to battle the Contacts to a 1-1 tie after two late goals.

Generals defenceman Jeron Kletzel's point shot found it's way through traffic on the power play to open the scoring with 2:40 left in the first and Saskatoon was able to answer 1:32 later when David Griffin broke in and beat goalie Jaxson Taupert.

Moose Jaw had a much better second period, outshooting Saskatoon 15-9 and they took a 2-1 lead 5:14 into the frame when Steven Kesslering finished on a shorthanded chance.

The Contacts came out on a mission in the third period and they were able to tie the game with a power-play goal from Jaeden Mercier only 2:14 into the period.

Just 36 seconds later, Josh Paulhus put the Contacts in front for the first time in the game and they received an insurance goal from Mercier on the power play with 5:27 left to play.

Moose Jaw went 1-for-7 on the power play in the loss, while Saskatoon was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Taupert stopped 37 of 41 shots for the Generals, while Moose Jaw fired 29 shots on the Contacts' net.

The Generals have three games remaining in the regular season. They will host the Battlefords Stars on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Mosaic Place and then travel to Saskatoon for a rematch with the Contacts on Monday. Moose Jaw's season ends on home ice against the Beardy's Blackhawks on Wednesday night.
