Rykr Cole finished with three goals and four points on the weekend and has multiple points in five straight games.

The Notre Dame Hounds just have the Moose Jaw Generals number in 2014.

The two teams are at opposite ends of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings, but in their two meetings since the turn of the calendar, the Hounds have came away with wins.

They did it again on Sunday afternoon, knocking off the Generals 4-3 out in Wilcox.

“It's not a good match-up for us,” said Ray Wareham, Generals head coach, after Sunday's game.  “They physically take it to us and we're happy to be done with them for sure.”

The Generals remain in fourth place in the SMAAAHL standings despite the loss, which drops their record to 2-2 against the Hounds this season.

The weekend wasn't all bad for the Generals however as they started things off with a 5-3 win over the Regina Pat Canadians on Saturday afternoon.

“It wasn't too bad on Saturday,” said Wareham.  “(Sunday) we just forgot our work ethic a bit and it was just another letdown.  That's tough when you're trying to get that home ice advantage and we're losing to teams below us and non-playoff teams.”

The Generals struck first in their Sunday meeting with the Hounds, as Rykr Cole picked up his 15th of the season just five minutes into the game.  The score remained that way until early in the second period when Rhett Kingston got Notre Dame on the board, but Cole would regain the lead for the Generals late in the frame with a power play marker.

Moose Jaw couldn't close out the win though as the Hounds scored twice in the third period – Vincent Lavoie at 10:26 and Lantz Hiebert at 1:26 – to pick up the one-goal win.

“We took some very undisciplined penalties late in the game that cost us,” said Wareham.  “That's stuff that we cleared up a little bit in the streak that we were on, but it reared its ugly head (in this game) and it ended up costing us a hockey game.”

Veteran goalie Grant Naherniak made 25 saves in the loss for the Generals, while they were 1-for-4 on the power play as that unit continues to improve for the team with multiple goals in back-to-back weekends.

The Generals won't be able to get on the ice this week to work on the issues from the weekend thanks to a concert at Mosaic Place.  The team has no ice time schedule before their meeting with Swift Current on Thursday.

“We're going to spend Tuesday and Wednesday doing some video work and more whiteboard, chalk talk, kind of stuff and some mental preparations to hopefully get us refocused,” said Wareham.

He thinks a couple of days away from the ice will serve his players well and allow them to get back on their game with a key week ahead.  The Generals take on the Legionnaires on Thursday in Swift Current, then host Beardy's on Saturday before the third place Prince Albert Mintos visit Mosaic Place on Sunday.
