Head coach Ray Wareham speaks with his team after practice on Wednesday.

The Midget AAA Generals have been off for a few weeks since wrapping up training camp, but they've been back to work over the last few days at Mosaic Place as they get set to open the preseason on the weekend.

Head coach Ray Wareham says he's liked the energy the guys have brought to the rink this week, "Both days have been really good.  Tempo has been good and the kids are working hard.  We've got a lot of turnover again, so it's a lot of instruction and learning new techniques, but first two days have been fantastic, so it's a good sign."

The Generals will kick off their preseason schedule this weekend with a home-and-home against the Regina Pat Canadians and Wareham says they will have a

younger line-up on the ice for the two games, "We loose some guys to SJHL camps this weekend, (goalie Grant) Naherniak is still in Red Deer, so it will be mainly a young team for the Sunday and Monday games, but for the younger guys that are here, we'll put them in to get that experience."

Wareham says the "real" exhibition season for his team will probably start when they head up to Calgary next weekend for three games against the Edge Hockey Academy, "After this weekend, things will probably start to settle down as far as (players been gone) goes, so that Calgary weekend we'll probably have our team and hopefully we can go out there and it's a good team building experience."

Wareham adds that he's happy with team they've put together this season, "We're fast, we've got some skill.  Last year, we were more of a meat and potatoes grind it out team, but you see some creativeness out on the ice over the last couple of days and that's exciting to see.  We are young, so it will take some time, but the skill and the speed is there, so now we just need to put it all together."

The Generals host Regina on Sunday night at Mosaic Place and then they play in the Queen City on Monday.  They head to Calgary for games on September 14th, 15th and 16th.
