A complete team effort from start-to-finish for the Moose Jaw Generals on Sunday afternoon.

A first period goal from Caleb Riess was more than enough offence for the Generals as they skated to a 4-0 shutout win over the Prince Albert Mintos in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action at Mosaic Place.

Hunter Arps wasn't tested too often, but was there for the Generals when they needed as he turned away 23 shots for his league-leading fourth shutout of the year, while dropping his league-best goals against average to 1.56.

“Strong play from the entire team was the key,” said Arps after the win. “They were cleaning up the rebounds and that's really helping out a lot... It's all the team in front of me.”

With Prince Albert coming off a hard fought game the night before in Regina, the Generals wanted a quick start and that's what they got as they peppered the Mintos' net with 16 shots in the opening frame. After some tight chances around the net, Riess finally broke through with a tipped point shot that gave Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead.

“We wanted to set the pace and push it, I thought we did a very good job of that and could have very easily been up a couple,” said Wareham. “We stayed with it, found a way to get a couple more and got a big win.”

Arps chipped in offensively to help the Generals extend their lead to 2-0 in the second period as his stretch pass led to a bang-bang play and a goal for Chantz Petruic.

Evan Thomas and Tyson Manz added goals just eight seconds apart in the third period to allow Moose Jaw to cruise the rest of the way to the win.

“It was nice to see us do some creative plays, we had lots of nice chances and it was nice to see us generate some stuff,” said Wareham. “(Cole) Fonstad on that third goal, jeepers, he's in the right position to intercept the puck and then not many guys have the patience to make that move.”

The line of Fonstad, Riess and Thomas powered the offence for the Generals in the win, but it was their ability to roll four lines that really allowed the team to get going offensively and carry the momentum forward.

“Fonstad and Riess have had some chemistry and Thomas had a good game today,” said Wareham. “Right now the line combos look good, everyone is bringing something different.”

The offence was clicking, the defence was solid and it all funnelled back to Arps in net as he looked unbeatable.

“We did a good job of not giving them too many quality chances, but when we did, he was solid, he's been in a bit of a zone lately,” said Wareham. “Arps has been pretty good lately and we're happy that we have both him and Colby (Entz).”

The Generals now sit alone in third place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with 46 points, they're one point back of the Notre Dame Hounds for second place with four games in hand. Moose Jaw is six points back of Regina for first with two games in hand on them.

The Generals are back on the ice Thursday when they host the fifth place Yorkton Maulers at Mosaic Place.
