The Moose Jaw Generals just can't catch a break as their losing skid extended to 12 games on Sunday.

The Generals fired 39 shots on goal but came away with a 7-2 loss to the visiting Battlefords Stars at Mosaic Place.

"Three-on-ones, two-on-ones and we don't even get a shot on net and then they get a bounce and a break and it's in our net, so it's been a tough struggle," said Generals head coach Ray Wareham after the loss.

"They've been pretty good about being upbeat, we've tried all types of things to get them going, so it's got to be on them to be better prepared to play too, it;s learning how to prepare yourselves to play at this level and unfortunately for us, it isn't going our way."

The loss drops the Generals down to 6-13-1-1 this season in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. They're 0-10-1-1 with four one-goal loss during their 12-game losing skid.

"It's pretty frustrating for sure, we've just got to make sure that we stay positive in the room otherwise it will get worse from here," said Generals captain Brendan Kemp.

"We're not getting down on each other, we're trying to keep each other going in the dressing room and on the bench."

The Generals and Stars traded goals in the opening three minutes of the game with Quinn Strang opening the scoring 1:57 into the game. Cody Davis answered for Moose Jaw just 36 seconds later.

Moose Jaw wasn't able to build momentum from that goal, however, as the Battlefords scored three more goals from Colby Ralston, Brendan Albert, and Shayde Peterson to take a 4-1 lead.

Steven Kesslering scored with just 2:17 to go in the first to cut the lead down to two heading into intermission.

The Generals again couldn't build momentum from the goal and the Stars struck twice in the second period, Boston Maxwell and Peterson scored over the second half of the period to make it 6-2 going into the third.

Moose Jaw outshot the Battlefords, 11-9, in the third period, but Luke Fennig scored the lone goal to give the Stars a 7-2 win.

"We had a wide-open net and the guy shot over the puck, didn't even touch the puck, that's how it's going for us," said Wareham.

"It's a struggle right now for us offensively and then we had some bad breakdowns defensively, you try to do too much and it just snowballs on you."

Before Sunday's game, the Generals took a trip down to Grand Forks, North Dakota to take in the NCAA game between the University of North Dakota and the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

The team was hoping to use the few days away to regroup and come out strong against the Stars, but that didn't work out.

The Generals had a chance to speak with UND head coach Brad Berry, who shared a message of continuing to push past their struggles. Kemp said that's something that will help them moving forward.

"We took that to heart, we just came out flat today and it cost us early and we couldn't get back from there," said Kemp. "We had some fun [in Grand Forks], the boys bonded really good, so from here going forward, we should be able to get going."

The Generals will head to Yorkton for two games against the last-place Maulers on Saturday and Sunday.
