The Moose Jaw Giants took one on the chin Tuesday night, losing 10-3 to the Earl Grey Rockets at Lyle Helland Diamond at Memorial Field.

Uncharacteristically, although the Giants lead the league in runs scored, they weren't able to get much going offensively.

Giants first baseman Darryl Callaghan, who hit a solo home run in the third inning, said the compact schedule hasn't been a problem so far.

“We play twice a week, and at least you’re getting used to seeing the ball, and a little more action,” he said. “It’s better than having a layover. Sometimes you didn’t play in a week, and now you’re getting two games a week.”

Giants starting pitcher Al Muhle was touched up for some home runs in the middle innings. The Rockets hit a pair of two run home runs in the second inning, opening up a 7-1 lead.

Moose Jaw’s Callaghan and Joe MacDonald hit solo shots in the bottom of the third but the Rockets scratched across three more over the next two innings off of Muhle and relieve Derrick Ross, ending the game after five innings.

The Giants' next action is Thursday in Regina against the winless Regina Gold

The other game last night at Memorial Field saw the Canadians edge Regina Golden Hawks 3-0.

Dane Roy hit a two run home run and Dean Holoien struck out 11 in a five hit shutout.

The Canadians next game is in Regina Friday against the Standing Buffalo Dakotas.
